    Starting Mental Health Treatment

The Center for Relational Health is located at 1900 Carrolton Avenue in Uptown New Orleans at the corner of Carrolton Avenue and Cohn Street (see picture). This location is equally distant from Oak Street and Claiborne Avenue. The Center is located on the streetcar line and there is parking area in the back available to clients  Prospective clients or clients coming in for therapy are welcome to park in the lot and they are asked to enter the building through the front door that faces Carrolton Avenue.

When clients enter the building they will be stepping directly into our waiting area. Clients are asked to sit down and wait until their appointment time so that Dr. Sautter or another clinician can escort you to our clinical office (in picture).

Our Clinic is intended to provide you with a space that allows our clients to be comfortable and focus on their treatment. A bathroom and small kitchen area are located off the waiting area and the waiting room is private and relaxed. If this is the clients first session with Dr. Sautter will conduct an “Intake Session” that will help the client decide whether they choose to participate in psychotherapy. If they choose to proceed with therapy the client and Dr. Sautter work together to identify the clients goals, strengths, and difficulties so that the client and doctor can define the type of therapy that will best meet the client’s needs.

During the pandemic we provide all of our clients with their intake and therapy sessions by delivering treatment to you in the comfort of your own home where your physical health can be protected. During the current pandemic intake sessions are conducted over the phone. If Dr. Sautter and the client decide to proceed with treatment Dr. Sautter explains how treatment is delivered using “telehealth” which is basically a highly secure and confidential type of Zoom or Skype. Sessions can then be provided to the client in the comfort of their own home.

    Billing and Reimbursement

Before starting therapy we will meet with you and make arrangements for reimbursement for our services or refer you elsewhere for support and/or treatment.

It is important to point out that Dr. Sautter has extensive experience using telehealth to conduct therapy with veterans. In fact it is his experience that after a short period of time people and couples prefer telehealth to “in person” psychotherapy. Clinical research has shown that all evidence-based psychotherapies are equally effective regardless of whether they are provided using telehealth or are conducted “in person”.
